DJ Doors and the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)

DDA Compliant Products

One of the key elements in meeting the various forms of building legislation and standards in force today, including the stringent requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, is the provision of safe and effective access to buildings. Creating an accessible entrance from the street is only the beginning of the task.

From 1st October 2004, it became necessary to remove physical barriers that prevent people with disabilities from using a service. This means that they should be able to move freely and conveniently throughout the entire building. This means that doorways between rooms, those leading to corridors and into toilets and lift areas can be negotiated with ease. Central to providing such freedom of movement is the provision of correctly identified door types and access controls.

What we can do for you

DJ Doors & Electrical Services understand the requirements of the DDA specification and are able to advise on the correct, and most cost effective way to meet these requirements. For example, an easy and cost effective way to meet DDA standards, is to automate existing swing door entrances with a low energy automatic operator and push button control (provided that the existing entrance meets the minimum opening width requirement). This enables the door to be operated either manually (i.e. in the usual way), or by the button located close to the door, both outside and inside. You can see an example of this on our customer page.

Happy Customers

  • I have to say that DJ Doors are one of the best contract companies I have worked with, it is like having a partnership agreement without the paperwork. They are very professional and helpful in all they do, and as regards response times, well, they would be difficult to match.

  • I have never had a problem with your doors, you arrange with me when you attend. Your service is excellent and I wish all of my contractors were like you.

Auto Door Conference & New Auto Door Standards

We attended the first automatic door industry conference set up by Global Automatics and found it very interesting. It was good to hear other people’s opinions on the industry and the way it's moving. While the talks were very informative, they also highlighted some shortfalls within the industry and raised the need to iron out these "grey areas" to help increase standards.

The new British Standard is also still due to come in to circulation with new additions using the EN16005. All still to be confirmed but we await the document with great interest........

In other news: Ann's Greyhound has actually won two races (I didn’t bet on these races!!), Mark's Le Mans Playstation epic was just an excuse to nick Jay's driving seat and Jay has managed to break my digital Newton meter!!

I raced my jet ski in France and it's slightly beaten up - my friends thought it would be a good idea - not so sure now, was good fun though; back to work for a rest.....

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our existing clients for their continued support and to welcome our new clients, we look forward to a long and happy relationship.

Thanks to the team for all their hard work and dedication to the company.
